March 10, 2003Pink and white boasThis weekend was one of those perfect weekends that we haven't seen for a long time. The sun graced us with it's presence for both days and the wind was amazingly less brutal than it's been in weeks. We woke up around 11am on Saturday, made breakfast and spent a few hours shopping around Herald Square. Afterwards, we lazed our way over to Union Square stopping off for a long coffee break along the way. Then downtown to J & R where Mo finally bought his long awaited Nomad Jukebox Zen MP3 Player which he had his eye on for weeks. For the evening, we met up with some friends for dinner and the Tori Amos concert. The Tori Amos concert was great (at least I thought so, but Mo might beg to differ). Our friends and us had fun quietly making fun of the people around us. Somehow, we managed to get seated near all the weirdos of the concert. There was the extremely fidgety girl who kept shifting around and annoying those around her. In front of her was Coca-Cola boy who was so in to the concert he kept orchestrating with his coke bottle. (Eventually, extremely fidgety girl became so annoyed with him she actually took his bottle away). There was super bad singer girl behind us. Now I have nothing against fans who like to sing during concerts... but really folks, if you're going to sing because you're such a fan, at least know the words! Finally, there were several people with BO around us. My friend was just aching to take her perfume out and start spritzing the air around us. After the concert, we dropped by a nearby bar for some drinks. Apparently, quite a few Tori fans decided to do the same. I don't mean to be a New York snob, but the B&T crowd can be so amusing. There were these three older women dancing around the pub with pink and white boas on. They became so tipsy that they were literally bumping into people. They were obviously having a good time and more power to them, but honestly, if I ever get that way, I hope that someone will please please point it out. On Sunday, we actually woke up before 10am for once and started our day early. We forwent our typical Sunday brunch and went for pizza instead. The best pizza in New York (in my opinion) at Patsys Pizza to be exact. You know, when I first came to New York, I was dissapointed with the pizza and kept insisting that Canadian pizza (ie. Pizza Pizza) was much better. Then I realized that there's a world of difference between the greasy corner take-out joints, and places like Patsy's, Lombardi's and John's Pizzeria. Places like these give me all the more reason to count my blessings that I live in a fantastic city like NYC. We ended the day by wandering through the park for the first time in what felt like months (in fact, it probably was months). I felt like the groundhog who hadn't come above ground all winter, and then blinks in the sunlight. Though I've missed those pleasant walks that make the days so special, I had no idea how much until I got to Central Park. Of course, as the afternoon progressed, the temperatures started to drop really quickly. Yet a none-too-gentle reminder that spring is still a few weeks away.
